Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare yearlings for grooming and exercise
- Identify hazards and risks to yearlings, and take action to control
- Ensure yearlings are familiarised to being in proximity to people and activity
- Teach yearlings to be tied up using safe and ethical horse handling techniques
- Brush yearlings all over, including manes and tail
- Pick yearlings feet out
- Fit tack and equipment, so that yearlings become accustomed to tack and equipment prior to sale or exhibition
- Ensure records for individual horses are maintained and updated
- Exercise and wash yearlings
- Ensure yearlings' feet are trimmed and shod according to workplace procedures
- Exercise yearlings according to workplace practices
- Introduce yearlings to stable or small yard
- Introduce yearlings to the wash bay, scrape off and dress over
- Increase exercise time and spend time hand walking yearlings
- Teach yearlings to lead up according to workplace practices
- Develop and oversee a feeding program for yearlings
- Prepare yearlings for sale day presentation
- Ensure yearlings' coats are well brushed and blooming, manes tidied and tails trimmed up

- Teach yearlings to walk and parade to workplace requirements
